Platform · Dual-use

Civil and defense condition intelligence — one schema.

Hullproof is dual-use by construction. The same footage- agnostic, VLM-based condition-intelligence engine serves commercial fleets and naval / defense assets on one CoatingPassport schema, one audit trail, one open-standard output. Nothing is bolted on — naval_hull is simply one more vertical.

Why dual-use works here

One engine, two markets

The VLM that reads biofouling on a container hull reads the same corrosion, coating breakdown, and structural defects on a naval hull. CoatingPassport doesn't branch on civilian-vs-military — asset_type 'naval_hull' is one more vertical on the same schema. No parallel codebase, no separate model.

Audit-grade lineage is a defense requirement

Defense procurement demands traceability: every claim back to source frames, every inference tagged with AI model version, every decision reviewable. Hullproof built this for EU AI Act compliance — it is exactly the evidentiary standard defense acquisition asks for.

Footage-agnostic = platform-agnostic

Navies operate AUVs (Kongsberg HUGIN), work-class ROVs, ship-husbandry divers, and hull-crawling robots. Hullproof reads footage from all of them — no hardware coupling. The same ingest path serves a commercial drydock and a naval base.

Sovereign-deployable

Defense data cannot always leave national boundaries. The core inference engine is packageable as an edge / on-premise container (CLAUDE.md §10E). CoatingPassport JSON is an open standard — no vendor lock-in on the data itself.

Defense-relevant asset coverage

Naval hulls

Frigates, corvettes, submarines, support vessels. Coating + corrosion + biofouling + structural condition. Same severity calibration as commercial hulls, NATO standards on request.

Subsea defense structures

Sensor arrays, seabed infrastructure, harbor-defense installations. ROV / AUV footage in, structured CoatingPassport out.

Naval-base + port infrastructure

Quays, jetties, dry docks, breakwaters serving defense ports. Concrete + steel marine-exposure condition assessment.

Pipeline + cable infrastructure

Critical undersea infrastructure protection — condition baselines + drift detection for cables and pipelines of strategic importance.

Defense-market readiness

Hullproof maps cleanly onto allied defense-export pathways (Innovasjon Norge / FFI / NADIC programs). Where the fit already sits:

  • Norwegian-founded, Norwegian-built — eligible for Team Norway defense-export programs.
  • Technology directly relevant to allied naval sustainment + critical-infrastructure protection.
  • EU AI Act high-risk-AI-system documentation already built — transfers to defense assurance review.
  • Footage-agnostic architecture works with allied robotic platforms (HUGIN-class AUV, work-class ROV, hull crawlers).
  • VLA layer (finding → autonomous robotic action) aligns with naval inspection-autonomy roadmaps.
  • Open-standard output (JSON, RDF, OSDU) — no proprietary lock-in on defense data.

Export-control note: dual-use technology may fall under Norwegian export-control regulation (Utenriksdepartementet) and, for US-market activity, ITAR / EAR. Hullproof treats export-control classification as a per-engagement step with the customer and the relevant authority.

For defense + naval programs

Naval sustainment commands, defense primes, and critical- infrastructure operators — the dual-use engagement is platform-tier, co-developed with your assurance + security team, sovereign-deployable where required.
